You already know how this usually goes
You find a British shop online. You order a jar of pickle and a box of proper tea. Then it stops moving. An email turns up asking for import VAT and a handling fee, and the box you already paid for sits in a depot until you pay the second bill. Two or three weeks later it finally arrives.
Nothing wrong with the shop. That is simply what a border does to a parcel.
We are not in Britain. We are in Porto.
Same brands, same jars, same tea, posted from inside the EU. Most orders are at the door within five working days.
- €0 import VAT
- €0 customs duty
- €0 handling fee
How ordering works
Three steps, and no paperwork in any of them.
- Pick what you miss Around twenty British items we keep in stock precisely because the supermarket here does not.
- We pack it in Porto Your box is made up in the Porto district of Portugal and posted from there, not from Britain.
- It arrives, and that is that No customs declaration, no import VAT, no handling fee. Nothing to sign and nothing to pay on the doorstep.
Everything on the shelf right now
Real stock, real prices, nothing to add at the door. Most of it sits between €2.00 and €5.50.
In stock today: Yorkshire Tea, Marmite, Branston Pickle, HP brown sauce, Colman's English mustard, horseradish sauce, chip shop mushy peas, malt vinegar, gravy granules, sage and onion stuffing, tartare sauce, parsley sauce, apple sauce, mint sauce, corned beef, custard creams, poppadoms, blackcurrant cordial.
One jar is not worth the postage. A box is.
Shipping is free over €100 anywhere in mainland EU. The commonest price in the shop is €5.00, so €100 works out at roughly twenty items.
Most people here do a proper shop two or three times a year rather than paying to send one jar of pickle across a country.
Stock in the Porto warehouse.
Questions we get asked
Does UNIONJAX.EU charge import VAT or customs fees?
No. UNIONJAX.EU ships from the Porto district of Portugal, inside the European Union. Orders sent to Portugal and Spain do not cross a customs border, so there is no import VAT, no customs duty and no courier handling fee.
Why is this cheaper than ordering from a shop in Britain?
A parcel sent from Britain to Portugal or Spain is an import, so the courier collects import VAT and a handling fee before delivering it. UNIONJAX.EU posts from inside the EU, so none of those charges apply and the price on the product page is the full price.
How long does delivery take?
Most orders reach the door within five working days. UNIONJAX.EU ships with MRW, DPD or CTT, depending on the destination.
What happens if something arrives damaged?
Send a dated photograph of the damage to info@unionjax.eu. UNIONJAX.EU pays the postage on the replacement.
How long do the products last?
Nothing leaves the Porto warehouse with less than three months left on the date, with one exception. Crisps and bagged snacks travel from the factory in the United Kingdom through Ireland before they reach Portugal, and can arrive with around six weeks left.
When is shipping free at UNIONJAX.EU?
Shipping is free on orders over €100 to addresses in mainland EU.
Does UNIONJAX.EU deliver to Spain?
Yes. UNIONJAX.EU ships to Spain and to Portugal from Porto, Portugal. Orders to Spain are treated the same as orders to Portugal, with no customs step and no import VAT.
How do I pay on UNIONJAX.EU?
Payment is processed by Stripe. Card details go to Stripe, not to UNIONJAX.EU.
What does UNIONJAX.EU sell?
British groceries that Portuguese and Spanish supermarkets do not carry: Yorkshire Tea, Marmite, Branston Pickle, HP brown sauce, mushy peas, Colman's English mustard, Colman's horseradish sauce, malt vinegar, gravy granules, sage and onion stuffing and tartare sauce. UNIONJAX.EU does not sell ketchup or mayonnaise.
Where does UNIONJAX.EU ship from?
Every order is packed and posted from the Porto district of Portugal. UNIONJAX.EU is run by an English couple and does not ship from the United Kingdom.
